Finding the Felsenbad
The Felsenbad sits at Heilstromstraße 4 in Bad Gastein, a short walk from the Stubnerkogel lift base. Look for the stone archway cut into the cliff face above the Gasteiner Ache.
Summer opening runs mid-May through late September, weather permitting. Winter welcomes thermal swimmers by appointment. The reception kiosk stocks towels, local snacks, and mineral water from the valley springs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to reserve a lane or entry slot?
Walk-ins are welcome whenever the bath is open. Reservations are only required for guided swims, sauna rituals, and private group use of the stone basin during evening hours.
Is the Felsenbad accessible for visitors with mobility needs?
A graded path leads to a lowered viewing deck. The lower changing rooms and thermal pool entry are step-free, though the upper rock-cut terraces remain uneven natural stone.
Can I swim outdoors during snowfall or cold rain?
Yes. The thermal spring maintains water near 26°C even in winter, and cold-weather swimming is part of the Felsenbad tradition. Saunas and the heated changing hall warm you afterward.
Are cameras, drones, or professional photography allowed?
Personal photos are welcome. Tripods, drones, and commercial shoots require written permission from the Badmeister office at least five days in advance.
